Historical Sites in Albany

Albany is the capital of State of New York. Albany is the fourth oldest city in USA. Albany has a rich history that dates back to the 17th century and it is reflected on the various historical sites in Albany. Some of the historical sites in Albany are as old as 176 years and bears some important facts about our past.

Historical Cherry Hill in Albany was built in 18th century overlooking the Hudson River contains the belongings of Van Rensselaer family. It has a huge collection of the family’s material possessions and documents that tells us about the 18th century New York. This 176 year old historical site in Albany tells us about the social and cultural history during 18th century America.

Schuyler Mansion was the home to General Philip Schuyler was built in 1763. The Georgian style mansion was host to many celebrities like George Washington Benjamin Franklin. The Mansion was a hub of military strategizing and great social parties hosted by the Schuyler family.

Ten Broeck Mansion was built by General Abraham Ten Broeck in 1797 when his house was destroyed in a fire. The mansion is owned by Albany County Historical Association.

New York State Executive Mansion is the official residence of the governors of New York State. The mansion was a home to Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin Roosevelt. Presently George Patkin stays in the mansion with his family.

Shaker Heritage Society was founded in 1977. It is a non-profit making historic group which conducts an educational program about the Shakers and their influence on the region.
